GAS METER UPGRADE IN BETHESDA MD

Our company offers an installation of natural gas powered generators that use a sizeable amount of gas volume when they are operating, so it’s necessary to have a gas meter with enough volume to operate the generator and the other gas appliances in the house. If yours doesn't then it might be time for a gas meter upgrade in Bethesda MD.

The gas meter typically has a plate on the front that lists its capacity in cubic feet/hour. One cubic foot per hour of gas volume equals approximately 1,000 BTUs. Total up the number of BTUs on the existing gas appliances and add to it the gas usage of the desired generator unit and thus the required meter capacity can be determined.

If you feel that you need a gas meter upgrade in Bethesda MD or the surrounding areas contact Meyer Electrical today!

STEPS TO ADD OR REPLACE NATURAL GAS APPLIANCES IF YOU ARE ALREADY A NATURAL GAS CONSUMER

Newer natural gas appliances may have higher gas volume demands and pressure requirements. To ensure proper installation:

1. We will verify the total BTU input rating for existing appliance(s) as well as the generator being added and/or replaced.
2. We will verify the gas pressure requirements that the manufacturer suggests for the generator being added.
3. We will contact Washington Gas to determine if both the service line capacity and gas pressure for the home are adequate.
4. We determine if a SPLIT-METER system would be right application for installation.
5. We and/or customer submits the Added Load / Split-Meter Request Form.
6. The meter company will contact customer to schedule installation and confirm whether there are additional costs for the service.

SPLIT-METER SYSTEM

When adding a gas generator, we may request Washington Gas to install a split-meter. In this application Washington Gas would install a new meter (or reinstall the old meter) and two regulators to provide 2PSIG pressure to the new generator and 7.0 inches water column pressure to the existing appliances.

WHEN & WHY A SPLIT-METER WOULD BE RECOMMENDED

1. It can be cheaper and easier to run new gas piping from the meter than tapping into the existing house piping system.
2. The existing low pressure house piping system is inadequately sized for handling the additional load of a new gas appliance (generator).
3. The new gas generator may require a higher gas pressure that can be delivered by the existing system, thus making the split-meter the onlY feasible system to install.
